Our itinerary will be filled with some surprises. In October there are many pop up workshops and events that are not announced until much closer to the time.
What this means for you is that there is more to the itinerary than meets the eye.
For now enjoy the things that we are sure of during the most fun filled month of the year in this gorgeous city!
Before your arrival we open a WhatsApp chat in order to keep in touch before and throughout the duration of your stay. We will coordinate your airport pickup and bring you to the CaSa.
Check in is at 3pm.
If you arrive before 3pm we will pick you up and bring you to a nearby cafe to wait.
Our chef will prepare dinner for you at 6pm - the official start of your vacation.
Late arrivals - have no fear... we will have dinner awaiting you.
Welcome to the SoMos CaSa. Located in San Felipe del Agua - the CaSa is a short distance from Centro. Take the bus (10 peso) or a taxi (120 peso) to explore the center of town or stay local and enjoy the many restaurants and coffee shops that are within walking distance of the CaSa.
Our beds are comfy and our staff are always on hand to help ensure that you have the very best experience ever!
Our massages begin with a limpia ceremony which is followed by a one hour traditional Zapotec massage on our beautiful terraza. This massage is relaxing and rejuvenating. The breeze flows over you as your cares melt away.
Childcare arrives at 9am so that by the time the massage therapists arrive your children are busy being entertained.
We will start the day by making pinatas which we will break on the final night.
Children will also be able to do some weaving, make their own tapete with dried beans and a host of other muertos themed crafts.
Little ones will do crafts that are age appropriate!
Of course we have to watch the movie CoCo to get us in the mood for the week ahead... snuggle up with the popcorn and enjoy the inspiration for the week.
We will take the grown ups on a tour of Oaxaca and its delicious street food with a focus on the foods that are most common at this time of year. Moles, tamales and candied skulls of course!
Not all kids want to traipse around town on the food tour. Our chocolate making class with muertos themed chocolates will be just the ticket for our little chefs.
We will make mascaras de calavera or a floral headband in our afternoon crafting workshop.
We will bring you all to the Benito Juarez Market where you will hunt for items from the movie. Once you've found them all come back to the meeting point for a prize.
After the treasure hunt you have some free time. The nannies will be with you. You may choose to stay in town or head back to the CaSa.
Fabric Dyeing Workshop for the children
We will use cempasuchil to dye fabric using traditional methods. Arrange the petals in the way you'd like to see your design and watch it come to life.
Our child care goes into the evening. Take advantage and go and enjoy a meal in the town. We will keep the children occupied with pinata making and CoCo inspired crafting activities.
We are going on an adventure to the artisans trail where much of the inspiration for the movie was taken.
In San Martin Tilcajete we will see how alebrijes are made and find out what is your spirit animal. Maybe you'd like to paint your own alebrije to take home!
We will see the weavers in San Jacinto Amilpas, eat lunch in an eco restaurant surrounded by nature, see traditional black pottery and visit Frida Kahlo to have some Oaxacan hot chocolate.
Join Rosa in the kitchen and learn to make foods that are typical of the season.
Kids love to get involved - making their own tortillas and getting to eat the delicious fruits of their labor.
Rosa is an excellent chef and has been making Oaxacan food since she was a little girl. Her dishes use ingredients that can easily be found at home - meaning her food is easy to recreate when you get back!
We will take the children to the childrens museum.
The museum is located in the old train station (the trains no longer run.)
There is room to run around, activities for the children and a library filled with books about Dia de Muertos.
Childcare continues into the evening. Please take advantage and head to enjoy some Kid Free time in town or at a nearby Restaurant.
Today we will be making flowers, papel picado, muertos themed jewelery and more.
We will also be breaking the pinatas that we have made this week!
Our amazing mariachi band will join you for your last night at the CaSa. Dance, dine and delight in the magic and of course - make requests... perhaps they know some songs from the movie!
