Our 5th visit to Oaxaca and Somos Retreats was AmAzInG! From the familiar rhythm of the week - Sunday massage, city excursions, longer distance excursion, Rosa’s delicious cooking, wonderful nannies with the kids, and the ability to go out to dinner… To new and exciting additions - a new destination with an amazing view, getting to the city by bus like the locals, a visit to the botanical gardens and new Michelin star restaurants to try… And as always - Tania’s magical touch in coordinating, helping, and hosting a retreat that truly feels like home away from home!

This was one of the best vacations I have ever been on. Usually, especially with a toddler, I go on vacation and often come back feeling like I need another vacation. Not this time! I had a perfect mix of time to myself and out and about while also experiencing new things with my son. Tania was so organized with the week, the casa was so comfy and beautiful, and the staff (Rosa, Lolita, and Margarita) were so patient and attentive to my son. I will definitely be back again and look forward to more retreats with Tania and her team!

Tania and the Somos team share a sensibility and a grounding in social awareness and what parenting in community and the world means to me and offer something that I never knew I'd find. Her manner is professional and prompt but also fluid and personalized, and her staff is ethically compensated, uniquely talented, and caregiving in a familial way while all within access to my middle class, one income, public educator salary. In the year prior in American discrimination for immigrant and people of color families, I felt supported by open dialogue with Tania regarding her own relative privilege, notions of collective care, risk, and representation, and how Oaxaca and her home setup would speak to those exact needs I had for travel and expansive global citizenship for my child. So yes - the bed linens are extremely comfortable, the view is breathtaking, the massage is still stored in my bones, the house is systematically clean and organized and convenient, the home cooked food is imbued with love and extraordinary flavor, the caregivers switch from Uno to train building to art with perfect attention, the kind cab drivers come on time while the windows bring the air to the tune of Los Tigres del Norte, the decor aesthetic is beautiful, and her find-about recommendations meet the standards of this city-living snob, but above all - Tania's business is a thoughtful, holistic experience that helps us consider broader ways to parent, rest, and live. Go!

Such a well planned trip, my daughter and I had such an incredible time! Tania is incredibly responsive, helpful and kind. The nannies are excellent. I definitely plan on taking another trip with her sometime, memories for a lifetime :)

Somos Retreats was an amazing experience. Tania is a wellspring of information and quickly and professionally made me feel at home in Oaxaca. Her staff –– Rosa, Lolita, and Dulce were incredible experts who efficiently and lovingly cared for the home, children, and made sure that we were nurtured and supported during our stay at Tania's Casa. The retreat activities allowed for a wide variety of experiences that celebrated various facets of Oaxaca's culture. As a single parent, it was such a gift to explore the Monte Alban ruins without having to worry about my son's care, or getting a ride to the location–– everything was taken care of and this enabled me to breathe more easily and to concentrate on my new surroundings. I highly recommend Somos Retreats for anyone looking to have a nuanced experience in Oaxaca while providing the utmost care for your child. Every part of this trip was well-curated, well-supported, and flexible. The Casa was comfortable, elegant, and with a wonderful Oaxaca flavor that was noticeable in so many beautiful details –– from the wonderful hammock in the terraza to the beautiful indoor pool where my son and I took a refreshing mid-day dip. In short, it was amazing and I would do it again.
